Name the current work.
Start with the file and the particular question being reviewed. A closing can contain several duties; one completed contribution does not complete them all.
Name what is still open.
Keep each missing contribution, current source edition, and unresolved concern identifiable. Clearing one question does not clear another.
Name who goes next.
Assignment and decision are separate. The recipient needs to understand what they have inherited, not merely find their name on a record.
Keep a usable return.
The office’s record should reach the normal file in a form another authorized colleague can find and inspect. A downloaded report is not automatically a completed filing handoff.
